An application of seismic sedimentology in predicting organic reefs and banks:A case study on the Jiannan-Longjuba region of the eastern Sichuan fold belt
To reduce the ambiguity in predicting organic reefs and banks by applying conventional methods, the present paper, guided by seismic sedimentology theory and based on analyses of lithofacies model and geophysical response characteristics of organic reefs and banks in the Jiannan-Longjuba region, made sedimentological interpretations of seismic inversion data by introducing the facies-controlled nonlinear seismic random inversion into the seismic sedimentology theory. According to lithofacies models of organic reefs and banks, a recognition model of organic reefs and banks was established by applying various data of seismic facies and inversion profiles obtained from some typical wells so as to trace back and predict organic reefs and banks over the whole study area. Drilling data indicated that the prediction was highly reliable.
