Abstract: Water soluble polymers are widely used in the oil field. The properties of vegetable gum, cellulose derivatives, synthetic polymers and biopolymers are discussed and their chemical structures described. Emphasis is laid on the importance of obtaining less expensive polymers of good qualities, and their proper application.
