Abstract: Based on the structural engineering and regulation strategy of Janus nanoparticles, hydrophobic polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and hydrophilic silica (SiO2) were combined to fabricate PTFE@SiO2 Janus nanoparticles with excellent dispersibility in aqueous media. The lubrication and anti-wear performance of Janus nanoparticles after high-temperature aging in weighted bentonite-based slurry and water-based drilling fluid systems was systematically investigated. The results show that at a dosage of 2%(mass fraction), Janus nanoparticles reduce the friction coefficient of the base slurry and drilling fluid systems by 51.3% and 36.5%, respectively, and exhibit a clear synergistic effect when combined with ester-based lubricants. In addition, Janus nanoparticles demonstrate superior anti-wear performance, with significantly smaller wear scar areas under high-load conditions compared with ester lubricants. Mechanistic analysis indicates that, during the friction process, the PTFE side of Janus nanoparticles readily forms a continuous lubricating film owing to the facile slippage of molecular chains, thereby reducing the friction coefficient; the rigid SiO2 side enhances the mechanical strength of the lubricating film, ensuring stable lubrication performance. Overall, the unique Janus amphiphilic structure is the key to the outstanding lubrication and anti-wear performance of the nanoparticles.
