Abstract: The Daqing Oil Field has kept up a steady increase of production for twenty years since the "battle for oil" that was launched in Daqing in 1960.It has a stabilized annual output of fifty million tons already for four years and is expected to remain sa for a number of years to come.Exploration and exploitation of the field has not only laid the foundatiara for the overall and rapid development of the Chinese oil industry,but also made great contribution to the advancement of geological science in full proof of the fact that,like deposits of marine origin,rich oil resources may be originated and super-giant oil fields may be found in continental sediments.Goad source rocks may be formed in deep depressions and deep lake basins that have sustained prolonged settling in the course of deposition of continental beds.Source rocks of great thickness and extensive distribution may also generate large amount of oil and gas.However,due to variations in lithology and lithofacies of continental deposits,the oil and gas pools so formed are compicated and of varied types.In sedimentary basins of contineatal facies,distribution of oil and gas poals are generally controlled by the oil generation regions,and traps developed in or nearby such regions are the most likely loci for accumulation of oil and gas.
